Interview with Talon Grips

Talon Grips llc. designs and manufactures one piece laser cut traction grips for 20 different firearms and over 200 different platforms.  They are located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, all of their products are 100% made in the U.S.A.  The Recoil Recitals (RR) had the pleasure of interviewing Mike Morris (M.M.) who is the President of Talon Grips llc. and Adam Spector (A.S.) who is one of their excellent customer service representatives.

(RR)
Let’s start with the Talon Grip origins. In June 2009 the first one was sold on Ebay, but how many prototypes were there before it was ready for sale?

(
A.S. & M.M.) Our founder was the Boat Sheriff on Lake Powell, Arizona. He decided that he needed to help him get a better grip on his department issued Glock. He started with strips of skateboard grip tape but he wasn't getting the positive grip he wanted so he looked for ways to cover the entire grip with one piece of grip material. Many prototypes were made before the final single piece design was created. Once the design was finalized he tested the grips in the hot wet conditions of Lake Powell. Other officers took notice and asked to buy grips.

(RR) How well does your material hold up to everyday use?

(A.S.) TALON Grips have been extensively tested and used by the US Military and Law Enforcement. The US Military has tested TALON Grips in conditions from sub zero temperatures to hot and humid to arid deserts with excellent results. For Law Enforcement duty weapons we typically see grip life up to three years. The key to making a grip last a long time is following the installation instructions.

(RR) What is it that makes your grips superior to others?

(M.M. & A.S.) We use a patented single piece design that decreases the chance of failure. If a grip is going to fail it's most likely going to fail at an edge so the less edges on a grip the lower the chance of failure. We design, test, manufacture, sell, market, ship, and provide customer service from under one roof. The communication between the different departments helps us make the best grips possible. We utilize the best materials. We have tested many different materials before we choose the grip material and adhesive that we use. Our design team is very experienced at designing gun grips to provide maximum coverage and durability. Once the grip is designed we test it extensively before we make it available. We provide excellent customer service.

(RR) We hear a lot about pranks and fun stuff in lots of workplaces, are there any office shenanigans at Talon Grips?

(A.S.) We have a great work environment. Our team is tight, we all work hard and play hard. Grips get put on just about everything from toilet seats to car door handles, to coffee cups. We once made a beaver fur grip for cold days in Steamboat.
(RR) Is there anything in the pipeline for knife lovers?

(A.S.) We all carry pocket knives every day and own tactical and hunting knives. Most of those knives have some grip material on them. The challenge with making grips for knives is that there are so many types of knives on the market and every knife would require a specific grip design. The best option for our customers that want grips for their knives is to get a sheet or strips of material and make a grip themselves. (Which you can get here)
(RR) Are there any plans to offer custom colors in your standard laser cut grips?

(A.S.) Who would want colored grips???? Stay Tuned.

(RR) Does Talon Grips have any secret plans for the future?

(M.M. & A.S.) There is some big retail expansion that is coming this summer online and in retail stores. Another top secret plan is that we are collaborating with an Italian firearm manufacturer on a special edition firearm to be launched this spring.

(RR) What is the best way for everyone to get in touch with Talon Grips?

The best way to get us via info@talongrips.com or 970 879 9600.

(RR) Is there anything else that you would like to add for our readers today?

(M.M. & A.S.) From our hand written note on each order to our quick responses via email to easily getting one of us on the phone we do our best to provide great customer service. We truly appreciate every one of our customers.

So if you are looking for a great inexpensive upgrade to your polymer framed firearms check out Talon Grips llc.  Their one piece laser cut grips will give you an outstanding grip weld to your preferred firearm.  Not only are Talon Grips llc. products first rate, so are their people. As you can see in the picture above, I have Talon Grips on my Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 9mm and will add them to any new polymer framed firearm I purchase.
